Elmer the Egret is a frequent guest of the Southport, NC town and has been captured in photographs frequently. The fishing food supply is great, the perches plenty and the fans are admiring. Patty Donoghue has captured this involved egret, crane in Cold Wax and Oil paint from a Jimmy Perry photograph. The relationship between the two must be special as these close up shots are frequently posted. The coastal birds in the Carolina Beach areas are plenty. The tall grasslands and Sandhills attract and replenish them to have a healthy existence. The ocean winds provide an incredible playground for the sea birds and fowl that habituate in this beautiful area. In this painting Donoghue captures "Elmer" in a usual pose, standing on a dock pillar looking intently out to sea for an evening meal, pretending to be unaware of his admirers and stockers, just feet away. The background building in this impressionistic view is one of the long standing government buildings from a historical past...
