Description
I painted this piece using a photo from my sons Fly-in event, at Ft Bragg, NC. I was very happy to see our soldier as was everyone at the event. I saw this man and 2 young boys, walking to their truck; and grabbed a shot. Recently at an art show, a veteran, saw this painting. As I was explaining the happy event; They saw baggage, the baggage soldiers return with, mental, emotional, painful . So the story on this one has changed or been augmented, to reflect the emotions our soldiers return with. This painting has been homed with a 20 year veteran, who took responsibility of younger solders- through that career, solders that were babies when he started his military career. The emotional weight of all these men and women veterans returning, stays too long on their back; just like the huge pack this man carries. This man is walking into the present, with the sun shining and hopefulness at each arm. Hope for our veterans. Thank you Kate for showing me a bigger meaning in this painting. It has now been homed where it was meant to be. Thank you for viewing my work and supporting the stories these paintings tell.

your words touched my heart and you did a great job in illustrating the heavy load that these soldiers carry with them for the rest of their lives. Very moving. Thank you for sharing this, Patty Donoghue.
